Breast Cancer Awareness Month

by Ray Lam

Currently, the month of October is designated as the official National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). For over two decades, NBCAM has successfully educated women of all ages about early detection, treatment, and diagnosis of breast cancer. Non-profit organizations such as Karmanos Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation are devoted to raising money for breast cancer research and educating women (and men) about the disease, supporting those with breast cancer, and celebrating the individuals who have survived it.

The past 10 years have been successful in promoting the cause and foundations like the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This quickly growing foundation has created events like Race for the Cure and cancer walks across the country to raise funds to promote continued research and support for fighting breast cancer.

You will still find, however, the Breast Cancer Awareness Bracelet to be the most popular. Featuring sterling silver, pink Swarovski crystals and delicate pearls, bracelets are ideal for the individual who wants to keep the cause close to her heart. Many bracelets include ribbon charms in silver, pink or crystals.

Other companies like Energizer have also jumped into show their support. Energizer’s Power to Keep Going campaign promotes awareness through cute down loadable desktop themes. More importantly, Energizer created ReTreat, a mobile mini spa designed to give breast cancer patients, survivors and caregivers the Power to Keep Going with a chance to Relax, Recharge and Remain Strong. The companies pink batteries will be on shelves in Target stores the entire month of October.

Every October is the international breast cancer awareness month, this is the time to try and do the most to increase the public awareness of this disease, and educate woman about the ways they can fight breast cancer, this month is also dedicated to raising money for the many different organizations and foundations that are working all year round on helping victims of breast cancer, some of these patients have no money and no funds they can use to try and treat the cancer, and these organizations help them get the support that they need.
