Avon Representative - Is This The Right Business For You?

by Chris Gatenby

Avon is one of the most solid and reputable Multi Level Marketing companies in the world. Avon products sell well and the company is well known and trusted.

Avon is best known for its Avon cosmetics but Avon products have evolved over the years and now include Avon jewelry and various specialty items of interest to its customers. The company was founded in 1886 and has grown to operate in more than 144 countries. It generates annual sales revenues on the order of eight billion dollars which makes it the largest direct sales organization in the world.

Your desire to become an Avon representative is more important than your finances because you can start with a small investment. Avon has a reputation for having empowered women over the years with an income opportunity they could start from home. The first Avon reps began over 120 years ago. Their ranks have grown steadily over the years and now number over 5 million.

Called “Avon ladies” since the ’50’s, the self-employed beauty consultants may be trained as representatives or as beauty advisors. They can work from home in door-to-door sales territories established near their homes, call on friends, family, or professional associates. This is a direct sales company and sells thru catalogs, and on the internet. Each representative may now post an Avon store website to take and process orders.

Those interested in becoming an Avon representative will need to be at least eighteen years old, have spare time to dedicate to their business, like to meet people and be self starters. The company recommends that you contact any active representative to inquire. You may be referred to a District Manager if the person you first contacted is not a Leadership representative. During your initial encounters you will learn about the company procedures and business opportunity. If you choose to join, you then buy your initial kit which cost about twenty dollars and includes some supplies to get you started on your marketing.

Avon has many sub-brands in the product line including Anew, Skin-So-Soft, Advance Techniques and Mark. Avon cosmetics are not the only items since the product line has been broadened to include jewelry, accessories, clothing items, seasonal items and gifts and candles.

Selling Avon is commission based business where you receive 20 to 25 percent. Repeat sales can help create a stable base but you must keep adding new customers in order to grow your business and replace those customers who drop off. Avon is a multi level marketing system so recruiting new reps is part of the game. Having some sales ability will help you succeed.

Another company to consider in the cosmetics arena is Mary Kay. If you would like to have a product line with broader appeal, you might also consider Xocai Healthy Chocolate where you market chocolate products that are an antioxidant supplement and actually good for your health. Everyone seems to love chocolate.

As in any other MLM or home based business, the only limitations on your earning potential are those you put in place. Your goals and your business plan and your desire to be a successful, self-employed individual can make the Avon business work for you.
